2018 AGM - July





Present: Brian Causton (BC), Jim Whelan (JW), Will Miller (WM), Cheryl Deamer (CD), Dom Pitman (DM), John Baker (JB) and Daisy Baker

  1. Apologies for absence

    • Apologies from Gabriel Whiting, Aaron Gardner

  1. Minutes

    • The minutes of the last AGM were accepted.

  1. Matters arising

    • Matters arising from the previous AGM were managed by the in year committee meetings.

  1. Chair’s Report

    • DM noted some improvement in some competition numbers, particularly the county epee and Sussex Open. However, only three girls attended the Novice Foil.

  2. Treasurer’s Report

    • The bank balance is £8,612. The Chair raised the possibility of acquiring further pistes, given the high cost of hiring often degraded pistes for competitions.

  3. Secretary’s Report

    1. Gabriel Whiting is resigning the post to go to university.

    2. CD suggested further delineation of the committee roles, particularly relating to supporting competitions. JW offered to provide a draft description.

    3. BC was to check the date of the 2018 Sussex Open and advertise in British Fencing.

    4. JM would also produce a PDF of competitions and calendar. This would be put onto the website as a download, and the competition calendar updated. JW would also check the calendar bookings

    5. CD would contact other clubs and school to ask for their attendance at the Committee.

  4. Election of officers

    1. Election of Officers was as follows:

  • Brian Causton nominated for Chair by WM, seconded by JW.

  • Brian Causton nominated for Treasurer by WM seconded by JW.

  • Will Miller was nominated for Secretary by JW seconded by BC,

  • Armourer: CD advised the meeting that she thought the armourer at Crawley Club, Andy Huckle, might fill this role, and would investigate.

  • WM volunteered as Webmaster.

  • DP volunteered as Welfare Office.

  • JW volunteered at Committee Member.

    1. The election of the Committee was carried.

  1. Any other business

    1. JB suggested advertising the fencing calendar as a mail shot, and even offering an initial discount to early takers. WM would investigate.

    2. JB thanked the committee for their hard work.

    3. Meeting closed at 10.15 am.
